Responsibilities•The Optical Lab Technician is responsible for performing a variety of production tasks for manufacturing prescription eyewear•Each technician is responsible for the quality and quantity of the work performed and is expected to understand and practice proper quality and safety procedures for every operation performed•Receives incoming work, traces frames, and stages incoming and outgoing work according to workflow•Prep lenses for the production line, using the equipment provided•Operate a blocking machine to attach the lens to the block with liquid alloy; refill the machine with alloy as needed•Learn and operate machinery to polish and prep lenses for the next stage•Wash lenses with attention to detail and care, ensuring damage is not caused during the process•Clean and maintain the machines thoroughly to ensure lenses will not be damaged•Use machinery and tools to mount finished lenses in metal, plastic, or rimless frames•Use a lensometer and visual methods to inspect lens attributes against requirements•Operate the edging machine, preferred•Notifies the leader on duty of equipment malfunctions, incomplete orders, incorrect lenses, etc•Maintains steady workflow to coincide with delivery time commitments to patients
